IVCC hosts winter choir concert

Choir performances include music from secular to sacred, serious to humorous

A winter choir concert and voice recital at 7 p.m. Monday in the Dr. Mary Margaret Weeg Cultural Centre is the first of three holiday performances at Illinois Valley Community College next week.

The voice students’ performance includes “Go Down in the Lonesome Valley,” “The Vagabond,” and selections from “Pirates of Penzance” and “Little Mermaid.”

Choir performances include a wide range of music from secular to sacred, serious to humorous. It will celebrate the holiday season with selections from the “Nutcracker,” “Still, Still, Still,” “O Holy Night” and conclude with a medley of Christmas favorites.

Choir is comprised of students, community members and IVCC employees dedicated to promoting vocal music in the Illinois Valley. Choir and voice students are under the direction of Jenilyn Roether.

The concert is free and open to the public. Masks are required.

IVCC also is hosting a Jazz Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and a Wind Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.
