1st Alabama Cavalry program set Jan. 18 during Starved Rock Civil War Roundtable

Meeting will take place at Ottawa High School

Civil War enthusiasts will have to wait a month for the next Starved Rock Civil War Roundtable program.

The next meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Room 420 of Ottawa High School, 211 E. Main St. Charles Stanley will present a program on the 1st Alabama Cavalry. Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome. Masking is required for attendance.

Thirty members attended the Nov. 17 meeting of the Starved Rock Civil War Roundtable. Drew Jessen presented a biography on Union General Richard Oglesby. “Uncle Dick” was beloved by his men, Jessen said. After the war, Oglesby was elected three times to non-consecutive terms for Illinois governor.
