No one was injured, including the resident’s pets, following a Friday afternoon fire on the 600 block of Sixth Street in Peru.

Peru Deputy Fire Chief Jim Duncan said the west side of the residence was on fire upon arrival at about 3:30 p.m. Friday with the fire heading up the side.

Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly, controlling it within 20 minutes, Duncan said. The fire had spread toward the attic but stopped before it could spread and cause more damage.

Spring Valley, La Salle and Oglesby fire departments responded, Duncan said.

Firefighters spent an hour clearing smoke from the home and knocking out hot spots. Dogs were inside the residence and they were found uninjured.
