Granville man identified as deceased in Cedar Point crash

The motorist killed Saturday on Route 71 in Cedar Point has been identified as Daniel Ramirez, 43, of Granville.

Monday, the La Salle County Coroner’s Office issued an update on the crash, in which the vehicle left the roadway struck a utility pole and then the Cedar Point motel.

The driver, since identified as Ramirez, was pronounced dead at the scene after Cedar Point Fire Department arrived shortly before 9:30 p.m., said Cedar Point Fire Chief Allen Haeffner.

An investigative autopsy was completed Sunday. The crash will be under further investigation by the Illinois State Police and the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.

The Cedar Point Fire Department was assisted by Standard Fire Department, Tonica Fire Department Ambulance, Oglesby Fire and EMS, Illinois State Police, La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
