IVCC agriculture open house attracts more than 35 participants

Ag coordinators, students discussed opportunities in ag program

More than 35 participants from Earlville High School, Marquette Academy and Princeton High School attended Illinois Valley Community College Ag’s Open House on Friday, Oct. 15.

Program co-coordinators Willard Mott and Caitlinn Hubbell along with current IVCC Ag students Madeline-Rose Mudge and Matthew Rich, of LaSalle, Taylor Irvin, of Streator, and Aaron Schmidt, of Mendota, discussed opportunities within the ag program, potential careers in ag and more.

Representatives from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University and Western Illinois University gave general overviews of their respective ag programs and participants had an opportunity to talk with them one-on-one.

Current ag students guided tours of the campus and Mott and Hubbell answered questions.

“We’re pleased with the turnout and we’re happy to welcome these students to campus,” Mott said.

Hubbell added: “It was good to see them make connections not only with us, but with transfer universities to help them decide their future educational path.”
