La Salle-Peru High School thanks security officers for their actions during Sept. 17 fight

Jean Ganze, Randy Huebbe were presented with certificates of appreciation

Because of their actions during the fighting incidents Sept. 17 at La Salle-Peru High School, the district’s board recognized and thanked two security workers Wednesday for their part in keeping the peace.

“About a month ago we had quite an altercation here,” said Board President Tony Sparks. “An unfortunate situation arose and it was a pretty bad one. I understand that it was the worst one that was seen here maybe ever.”

Jean Ganze and Randy Huebbe were both presented with certificates of appreciation from the board for all they did for the school during the altercation.

“We wanted to recognize two of our security staff members who were in the middle of it,” Sparks said. “They really rose to the occasion and while they are security employees and have been for quite some time, Ganze and Huebbe, went above and beyond what is normally expected.”

Sparks went on to say the situation was one that had gotten out of control as the events of that day have since resulted in the expulsion of two students and the transfer to a Safe School Program for two more.

“It was impressive how they kept calm and were able to keep things under control and intervene as needed,” Sparks said. “Thank you for that outstanding performance. I really don’t know how you did. I think the adrenaline probably kicks in and also a natural trait that you two possess. It’s impressive and admired.”

Sparks said the actions of these two individuals putting themselves in harm’s way, not only helped maintain student safety, but also the safety of other faculty as well.

“We were able to contain the situation and help the resource officers with whatever else was needed to bring everything to order eventually,” Sparks said. “So we as a district and a board really want to thank you for that.”

Both Ganze and Huebbe were in attendance to receive the certificates of appreciation and to receive the gratification of all board members.
