Putnam County High School student earns degree at IVCC

McNabb resident completed summer courses at IVCC

Abigail Thompson, of McNabb, daughter of Sarah Morgensen and David Thompson, earned her associate’s in arts from Illinois Valley Community College, May 22, while also receiving her high school diploma from Putnam County High School.

Once Thompson completes summer courses at IVCC, she’ll also earn an associate’s in science.

Thompson participated in National Honor Society and Interact Club at PCHS and was a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, the English Honor Society for two-year colleges.

She will transfer to Bradley University to major in psychology with the hope of becoming a counseling psychologist.

“Putnam County High School was one of the first high schools in the district to embrace what we call the ‘Running Start’ concept whereby students could earn their associate’s degree and diploma concurrently by staying on-track and enrolling in dual-credit and dual-enrollment courses,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.

“Abigail, her family and supporters at PCHS and IVCC should be commended for a job well done. The high school and college are known for high standards and academic excellence. We are proud of Abigail and wish her continued success,” he added.
