Frank Cattani elected as Ladd mayor

Margherio, Thrasher and Nelson win trustee seats

LADD — The village of Ladd on Tuesday elected Frank Cattani as its next mayor.

Cattani bested opponent Andrew Ruggerio, garnering 72.47% of votes with 287 votes to Ruggerio’s 101. JD Erickson, whose name was on the ballot despite having dropped out of the race received eight votes.

What started as a three-way contest for village president became a two-man race after Erickson took himself out of consideration because of an election law that would have prevented him from being sworn in had he won. Voters still saw his name on the ballot because of the timing in which he stopped campaigning.

The race, along with contests for village trustees and clerk brought out 45.3% of Ladd’s registered voters. A total of 403 of 890 residents voted.

“I’m happy the city entrusted me to be its next mayor,” Cattani said on Wednesday. “I’m excited to work with the new village clerk and the trustees. I look forward to working together as a team to keep the village going in a positive direction.”

David Margherio, Molly Thrasher and Daniel Nelson were elected village trustees Tuesday, besting Patrick Flanagan and Gregg Ripka.
