Oglesby American Legion Auxiliary Post 237 announced its winners in the annual Americanism essay contest. The topic for the 2021 contest was “How to Promote Old-Fashioned Patriotism While Recognizing Where We Have Fallen Short.”

The first place entry was written by Adam Kasperski, son of Dan and Molly Kasperski, of Oglesby. He is an eighth grade student at Holy Family School, Oglesby. His essay has been forwarded to the 12th District Division Headquarters.

Second-place winner is Grace Newman, also an eighth grade student at Holy Family School in Oglesby. She is the daughter of Jake and Jennifer Newman, of Oglesby.

The two winners and their families will be invited to a reception at an Auxiliary meeting in May to read their essays to the members. Kasperski also will read his essay at the Memorial Day program in Oglesby.
