16 IVCC students receive food bags

More than $1,500 raised for food bags, other projects

Sixteen Illinois Valley Community College students in need will receive food bags Tuesday and Wednesday, thanks to a drive initiated by staff members Carey Burns and Kim Herout.

Bags contain dried pasta, sauces, soups, chili, rice, noodle dishes, peanut butter, jelly, bread, quick oats, fruit cups, cookies, crackers, fresh fruit, cheese and pantry staples such as cooking oil and ketchup.

Proceeds from the Support Staff Service Project Craft Fair raised more than $1,500 split between the food bags and another project.

Burns said a “large clothing and accessory donation” also will be made to Lily Pads Resale Boutique.

Other IVCC staff assisting were Janice Corrigan, Donna Swiskoski, Gracelyn Quesse, Aseret Loveland, Sandy Beard and Susan Monroe. Participating departments included Project Success, Student Services, the bookstore, Hall High School’s Food Pantry and BEST.
