Roundup: Earlville girls basketball advances to LTC semis

Brooklyn Guelde scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals Tuesday to help the No. 5-seeded Earlville girls basketball team to a 41-36 victory over No. 4 Hinckley-Big Rock in a Little Ten Conference Tournament quarterfinal at Serena.

Alexis Olson had 12 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while Elizabeth Browder contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

The Red Raiders (11-5) advance to face No. 1 Serena in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Huskers advanced with a 52-9 win over Hiawatha.

La Salle-Peru 46, Morris 19

Brooklyn Ficek poured in 27 points Tuesday as the Cavaliers returned from a 15-day COVID-19 pause to cruise to an Interstate Eight Conference victory in Morris.

Garreett Cook scored 18 points Tuesday to help the Red Raiders to a Little Ten Conference victory in Earlville.

Bryar Keller added 14 points for Earlville (6-13, 3-3 LTC).

The Tigers picked up a nonconference victory Tuesday in Sandwich.

Flanagan-Cornell 62, Fieldcrest 45

The No. 11-seeded Knights lost to the No. 3 Falcons in a Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament quarterfinal Tuesday in Bloomington.

Fieldcrest plays No. 10 Tremont at 6 p.m. Thursday in the fifth-place bracket.

Logan Dober scored 10 points as the Lions dropped a Little Ten Conference game Tuesday in LaMoille.

MaKenzie Hamilton rolled a 584 series Tuesday as the Cavaliers returned from a COVID-19 pause to earn a nonconference victory in Mendota.

Isabella Weber added a 583 series for L-P, which last competed Jan. 4.

Aubree Acuncius rolled a 582 series Tuesday to help the Bruins to a victory in Peru.

Veronica Martin added a 526 series for St. Bede.

WRESTLING

At Princeton

Princeton went 1-2 on Tuesday, beating Mendota, 51-12, and losing to Erie-Prophetstown (42-39) and Riverdale (40-27).

Preston Arkles and Kaydin Gibson each recorded multiple pins for the Tigers.

The Trojans also lost 48-3 to Riverdale.

Jose Hermosillo and J.P. Belmonte each earned a win by decision for MHS.
