Roundup: St. Bede sweeps Hall in bowling

The St. Bede boys and girls bowling teams swept Hall on Wednesday at the Illinois Valley Super Bowl in Peru.

Trenton Acuncius rolled games of 246, 276, 237 for a 759 series to lead the St. Bede boys to a 3,186-1,805 victory.

Thomas Harris added a 604 series for the Bruins.

Moses Levine led the Red Devils with a 433.

In the girls match, which was three on three, Madelyn Torrance rolled a 535 series to lead the Bruins to a 1,456-1,220 victory.

Sarah Beier paced Hall with a 529 series.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newman 64, Bureau Valley 62: Newman coach Ray Sharp notched his 300th career victory in 15 seasons at the Comets’ helm Wednesday at the Storm Cellar, but it didn’t come as easy as it appeared it would.

The Comets led by as much as 14 points (21-7) in the first quarter and by 16 points (33-17) in the second. The Storm scored the last 12 points of the third quarter to take their first lead of the night, up 49-46 at quarter’s end. BV went back ahead on baskets by Nevin Bolin and Layton Britt, going up 62-61 with 1:12 left. Newman stripped the ball and called a timeout before sophomore Lucas Simpson sank a pair of free throws to put the Comets back in front for good at 63-62 with 16.5 left. Carter Salisbury led the Storm with 28 point and Adam Johnson added 18. Newman’s Marcus Williams led all scorers with 32 points.

Wethersfield 40, Henry-Senachwine 36: The Mallards came up short in a nonconference game Wednesday in Henry.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Kewanee 56, Mendota 29: Reanna Brant scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Trojans dropped a Three Rivers Conference East Division game Wednesday in Mendota.

Isabella Tolentino added seven points for the Trojans, who were playing their first game in 10 days and were missing eight players.
