Briefs: Three L-P softball players earn all-state honors

Three La Salle-Peru softball players were named Illinois Coaches Association Class 3A All State after helping the Cavaliers to a 20-win season.

Senior third baseman Kaitlyn Gibson was voted to the first team, while junior shortstop Maddy Pangrcic and sophomore outfielder Taylor Martyn were third-team selections.

Gibson, a Ball State University recruit, hit .430 with 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 29 RBIs and 27 runs.

Pangrcic hit .350 with nine doubles, two home runs, a triple, 17 RBIs and 17 runs, while Martyn hit .461 with three doubles, 13 stolen bases, 20 runs and 12 RBIs.

Area baseball players earn All-TRC honors

Undefeated league champ Hall placed six first-team selections and Princeton had four on the 2021 All-Three Rivers Conference East Division All-Conference baseball team.

Hall’s Trez Rybarczyk (P), Jack Savitch (OF) and Mac Resetich (OF) were unanimous selections. They were joined on the first team by teammates Alec Bulak (P), Payton Plym (IF) and Kyler Lapp (C).

Princeton placed seniors Owen Rossler (IF), Jacob Burns (OF) and Jamie Reinhardt (IF) and junior Ean Compton (P) on the first team.

The Tigers also were represented by juniors Bennett Sierens (IF) and Matt Lucas (OF) and sophomores Danny Cihocki (P) and Ryan Brucker (IF) on the second team, while senior Drew Woolley (C) received honorable mention.

Bureau Valley’s Sam Rouse (P) was named to the second team while St. Bede’s Dan Dugosh (OF) and Auggie Wiesbrock (P) received honorable mention.

Little Ten announces all-conference baseball, softball

Seven athletes from Earlville were honored by the Little Ten Conference for their play this spring.

In baseball, senior pitcher Davis Sweeney and junior catcher/shortstop Bryar Keller were unanimous all-conference selections.

In softball, a trio of Red Raiders were voted all-conference in junior third baseman Elizabeth Browder, junior center fielder Brynn Guelde and junior pitcher Paige Marks.

Summer Nationals returns to La Salle Speedway

The DIRTCar Racing Summer Nationals returns to LaSalle Speedway on Wednesday, June 23 featuring $5,000 to win UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds and UMP Street Stocks.

General admission is $25 with kids kids 11 and under admitted free. Adult pit passes are $40 and kids pit passes are $20.

Pits open at 1 p.m., grandstands open at 4 p.m with racing action to begin at 6:30 p.m.
