Roundup: Putnam County baseball sweeps Henry

The Putnam County baseball team finished the regular season by sweeping Henry-Senachwine 3-0 and 6-3 in a Tri-County Conference doubleheader Tuesday in Granville.

In the first game, Jackson McDonald went 1-for-1 and scored a run while also tossing a complete game, giving up one hit while striking out seven batters and walking five.

Colton Williams had the lone hit for the Mallards, while Eric Garrison took the loss in the circle.

In the second game, Andrew Pyszka tripled, drove in three runs and scored a run, while Nicholas Currie was 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI.

Troy Petty earned the win for PC (16-5) as he allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit with eight strikeouts and one walk in 4 1/3 innings.

Lance Kiesewetter was 1-for-2 with a run for Henry (12-9) while also taking the loss on the mound.

Earlville 13, Leland 9

Griffin Cook was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs on Tuesday as the Red Raiders earned a Little Ten Conference win in Leland.

Jeremy Weymouth tripled twice, scored a pair of runs and drove in a run for Earlville (5-9).

SOFTBALL

La Salle-Peru 5, Metamora 3

Kelli Boyer was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run Tuesday to help the Cavaliers to a non-conference victory in their regular season finale in Metamora.

Lauren Phillips went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for L-P (20-5), while Alexia Michael was 2-for-4 with a run.

Evin Becker earned the win in relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in three scoreless innings.

Henry-Senachwine 8, Putnam County 6

Hope Self tripled twice and scored three runs Tuesday to lead the Mallards to a Tri-County Conference victory in Granville.

Erin Hufnagel went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Henry, while also earning th win in the circle.

Maggie Richetta was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for PC, while Tori Balma had a triple, a double, three runs and an RBI.

Kara Staley took the loss for the Panthers.

WRESTLING

At Princeton

Princeton earned a pair of victories Tuesday, defeating Orion 55-18 and Ottawa 54-24.

Matthew Harris recorded two wins at 132 pounds, winning by technical fall against Orion and winning by pin against Ottawa.

Against Orion, Auggie Christiansen (145) and Drew Harp (195) won by pin, while Steven Benavidez (106), Carson Etheridge (152), Cael Davis (160) and Payne Miller (285) won by fall against Ottawa.

BOYS TENNIS

At Ottawa

La Salle-Peru’s No. 1 doubles team of Gavin Jonassen and Andrew Bollis placed second at the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

Mendota 3, Streator 2

The Trojans picked up a victory Tuesday in Mendota.

Parker Guelde won 6-1, 5-7, 12-10 at No. 2 singles for MHS.

In doubles for the Trojans, Byron Hampton and Tyler Valdez won 6-0, 7-6 at No. 2, while Jacob Ensor and Zach Compell earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3.

COED TRACK AND FIELD

At Granville

Kendra Crew won a pair of events Tuesday as the Putnam County girls placed second in a quadrangular.

The Panthers tallied 35 points to finish behind Lowpoint-Washburn (47).

Crew won the 100-meter dash (14.69 seconds) and 200 (28.95).

In the boys meet, Joey Twardowski won the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches) as PC finished fourth.

At Mackinaw

Fieldcrest’s Mason Stoeger set a track record in the 800 meters Monday with a 2:01.97 as the Knights lost 62-16 to host Deer Creek-Mackinaw in a Heart of Illinois Conference dual.

In the girls meet, Carol Megow swept the throws as Fieldcrst lost 54-30. She tossed the shot put 28 feet, 11 inches and the discus 79-7.5.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

At Oregon

Mendota’s Alex Hermosillo placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:20.28) as the Trojans placed fifth in a five-team Bog Northern Conference meet Tuesday.

At Pecatonica

Brock Loftus won two events Tuesday as the Amboy co-op placed fourth in a nine-team meet.

Loftus won the 1,600 meters (4:47.86) and the 3200 (10:05.17).
