Roundup: L-P softball cruises past Sandwich

Maddy Pangrcic had four hits, including a triple, on Wednesday to lead the La Salle-Peru softball team to a 9-0 victory over Sandwich in an Interstate Eight Conference game in Sandwich.

Kaitlyn Gibson and Paige Kirkman each had two hits, and both had a triple.

Chloe Mitchelle pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine batters.

Mendota 11, Hall 0 (5 inn.)

Jenna O’Donnell hit a home run, drove in three runs and scored a pair of runs Wednesday as the Trojans cruised to a non-conference victory in Spring Valley.

Mary Defore went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. She also pitched a one-hitter while striking out four batters and walking one.

WRESTLING

Geneseo 54, La Salle-Peru 30

Austin Christmann, Rylan Poole, Connor Lorden, Sylvester St. Peter and Zach Znaniecki each won Wednesday, but the Cavaliers came up short in a non-conference match in Geneseo.

Rock Island 4, La Salle-Peru 0

The Cavaliers fell in a non-conference game Wednesday in La Salle.

L-P is 5-6 on the season.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

At Kankakee

IVCC’s season came to an end Tuesday as the Eagles were swept by Kankakee in the Region IV quarterfinal series.

IVCC lost 8-1 in the first game and 7-2 in the second game.

In the opener, Ally Gullette went 2-for-3 and belted a home run for the Eagles’ lone run of the game. She also took the loss in the circle.

In the second game, La Salle-Peru graduate Gianna Neill was 1-for-3 with a run. She also took the loss in the circle.

IVCC finishes the season 9-17.
