L-P girls basketball earns first win; Mendota girls top Oregon

Drake Weber poured in a game-high 27 points Wednesday to lead the La Salle-Peru boys basketball team to a 54-48 victory over Plano in an Interstate Eight Conference game in Plano.

John Riva added 13 points for the Cavaliers (6-3, 5-1 I8), who outscored the Reapers 18-10 in the second quarter to take a 28-20 halftime lead.

Oregon 62, Mendota 58 (OT)

Rafa Romero scored 19 points Wednesday as the Trojans fell short in a Big Northern Conference game in Oregon.

Krew Bond had 18 points for MHS, while Josue Arteaga added 15 points.

The Trojans trailed 32-25 at halftime before outscoring the Hawks 33-26 in the second half to force overtime.

Newark 59, LaMoille-Ohio 21

Dylan Tornow had six points Wednesday as the Lions fell in a Little Ten Conference game in Newark.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

La Salle-Peru 65, Plano 56

Lauren Klein scored 23 points Wednesday to lead the Lady Cavaliers to an Interstate Eight Conference victory in La Salle.

Brooklyn Ficek contributed 18 points for L-P (1-3, 1-3 I8).

Mendota 56, Oregon 47

Daisy Arteaga scored 21 points, dished out six assists and swiped three steals Wednesday to help the Lady Trojans to a Big Northern Conference victory in Mendota.

Jenna O’Donnell had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals for MHS, while Izabella Nanez chipped in 10 points.

BOYS BOWLING

La Salle-Peru 3,785, Mendota 3,029

The Cavaliers had three bowlers roll a 700 series or better Wednesday as they earned a non-conference victory in Mendota.

Payton Baker led L-P with a 710 followed by Landen Miller with a 702 and Chance Hank with a 700.

Landon Bauer paced the Trojans with a 624 series, while Kasen Novak added a 568.

GIRLS BOWLING

La Salle-Peru 2,897, Morris 1,964

Isabella Weber rolled a 592 series to help the Lady Cavaliers to an Interstate Eight Conference victory in Peru.

Christine Ricci contributed a 565 series for L-P.

BOYS SWIMMING

Sterling 102, La Salle-Peru co-op 68

Joe Ovanic won a pair of events Wednesday as the Cavaliers lost in Sterling.

Ovanic claimed the 200-yeard freestyle in 1:52.01 and the 100 butterfly in 54.16 seconds.
