IVCC to offer a 12-week Private Pilot Ground Training course starting on Feb. 5

Class will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. every Saturday

The Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Office will begin to offer a 12-week Private Pilot Ground Training Course from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays beginning on Feb. 5. There will be no class on March 12.

The main campus class will prepare students for the Private Pilot Knowledge Exam and will provide knowledge of flight controls and instruments, airport and airspace considerations, aircraft weight and balance aircraft performance tables, basic weather meteorology, federal aviation regulations, flight psychology and emergency preparedness.

Students will be able to tour the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru and experience a flight simulator. Flying or airtime is not included in the course.

Upon completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the F.A.A. Private Pilot Knowledge Exam. There is an additional fee for the test.

Textbooks for the course include Federal Aviation Regulations Aeronautical Information Manual, Private Pilot 2022 Test Prep and the Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge. These texts are included in the cost of the class.
