Pistol Shrimp power past REX with 4 homers

The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp blasted four home runs Tuesday – including a pair by Logan Delgado – in a 13-7 rout of the Wabash Valley REX at Veterans Park in Peru.

The Shrimp scored in each of the first six innings with Will Worthington getting the scoring started with a solo home run in the first.

Keyshawn Ogans ripped a bases-clearing triple in the second to give the Shrimp a 4-2 lead.

Andy Nelson led off the third with a home run and Delago later belted a two-run shot with two outs.

Illinois Valley capitalized on four errors by the REX in the fourth inning to score three runs to extend its lead to 10-5.

Delgado hit a solo homer to start the fifth, while Damen Castillo had an RBI single and Garry Maynard delivered an RBI double in the sixth to cap the scoring for the Shrimp.

Delgado finished 4 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs, while Ogans went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Ryan Surin started for Illinois Valley, allowing five runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Ryan Palmblad tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up one hit while striking out five batters and walking one.

Justin Rios struck out one and walked one in 1 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings, while La Salle-Peru graduate Jake Dahl pitched the ninth, giving up a pair of runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks.

The Pistol Shrimp (21-31), who are 8-2 in their past 10 games, play the Springfield Sliders (24-27) at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday in Springfield.
