Pistol Shrimp drop game to REX in walk-off fashion

The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp held a four-run lead late, only to see the host Wabash Valley REX score three times in the eighth and then twice in the bottom of the ninth to post a 10-9 victory.

The Pistol Shrimp scored a run in the top of the first and second innings, but trailed 5-2. They then plated two in the fourth, four more in the sixth, and one in the eighth before Wabash Valley started its comeback.

The Pistol Shrimp (4-12) return home to play the Danville Dans at 7:05 p.m. for Super Hero Night at Veterans Park.

There will be Meet the Players event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a selfie station, a food truck, and free super hero capes for the first 50 children.

THURSDAY’S RESULT

Springfield Sliders 8, Pistol Shrimp 3

The game was tied at 3 after six innings before the Sliders pulled away with two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

First baseman Damen Castillo went 2-for-4 for the Shrimp and hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season, while third baseman Colton Coca was 1-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.

La Salle-Peru graduate Jake Dahl took the loss in relief, as he gave up two runs on two hits in 1/3 of an inning.
