Oakwood Memorial Park Hosts “Picnic in the Park” in June

Memorial parks have their roots firmly planted in our history.

Going back to the early 19th century, families would often picnic in cemeteries while visiting their deceased loved ones. These cemeterial gatherings gave way to the design of the memorial parks of today, which usually feature beautiful landscapes, trails or winding pathways, and lush gardens. This allows families the opportunity to gather in a tranquil setting which also serves as the final resting place for those who have passed on.

Oakwood Memorial Park is one such place.

For the Brooke family, being entrusted with the responsibility of providing valuable services during others’ times of need is an honor that spans five generations in this special line of life’s work.

“Cemeteries are important places for people to go and connect with their family and friends they have lost,” says Ryan Brooke, owner of Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa.

Memorial parks can differ from standard cemeteries in various ways, particularly in the direct connections with loved ones and the surrounding atmosphere of the park itself.

“It’s a place they can physically touch and be connected to the person they are visiting,” Brooke said.
