La Salle County treasurer Jim Spelich announces reelection campaign

Jim Spelich announced his reelection campaign for La Salle County treasurer.

“I am very excited to announce that I am running for re-election as the Republican candidate for the office of La Salle County treasurer,” Spelich said in a Tuesday press release. “It has been an honor and a privilege serving the residents of La Salle County over the last seven years. Since being elected, I have continued to improve office efficiencies and services provided to tax payers.”

Spelich cited a number of accomplishments over the past seven years that “have enhanced the taxpaying process.”

• Instituted a Cyber Security platform for the electronic payment of real estate taxes
• Reduced the operating expenses in the treasurer’s office
• Managed the county certificates with local banks for best available rates
• Maintained the long history of efficiencies and integrity in the treasurer’s office
• Maintained an extremely talented staff to make the tax paying process easy and efficient
• Implemented the penalty-free interest for first installment payments at the start of COVID-19
• Assist in the committee to help properly distribute CARES Act dollars received in 2021 and 2022

“The last 24 months have been very challenging for everyone,” Spelich said. “I am very proud of the staff in the treasurer’s office, they work hard every day and have really come together even more working through this difficult time. I am grateful to be able to work with them and I know what a valuable asset they are to the citizens of our county.

“I believe that the experience I have gained over the last seven years as treasurer along with my financial services background over the last 25 years has made positive impact on the office. It has been a very rewarding experience and I would like to continue making the tax paying process easy and simple for all of the tax payers in La Salle County. As a lifelong resident of Peru, I am very grateful to be able to serve the people of La Salle County and ensure all tax dollars are allocated timely and properly to all of the entities of the county. I look forward to, given the opportunity and support of the tax payers of La Salle County to continue the important work we do. Thank you for your vote and confidence in the work I do.”
