The Reddick Public Library Board voted Monday to buy a 4,650 square-foot lot adjacent to the library for possible future development.
The property at 1035 Fulton St. is the site of a vintage 2,000 square-foot one-story machine shop.
The library board plans to have the building demolished and, for the time being, likely use the property for additional parking, said Library Board President Neil Reinhardt.
The $70,000 property purchase will be made with available funds.
Several years ago the library board considered a plan expanding into the entire block, That plan was dropped. But the board also determined as land in the block became available it would consider its purchase to preserve expansion options, Reinhardt said.
