Streator buys public works truck with COVID-19 relief money

City still has more than $800,000 in ARPA funds

The Streator City Council agreed to spend $84,221 of its $891,318 in federal COVID-19 relief funding on a public works truck.

The city bought a 2021 Ford F-450 with a plow, stainless steel box and salt spreader from Currie Ford in Frankfort, Ill.

The truck will be used for utility and public works projects, including sewer maintenance. In addition to its use on sewer operations, the department will use it remove snow from city parking lots, alleys and cul-de-sacs.

City Manager David Plyman said the department needs to replace a truck because one of the trucks in the public works fleet has a dump body rusted through and is in poor mechanical shape.

The city can use American Rescue Plan money on sewer/public works equipment and projects, Plyman said.
