The Streator City Council did its part to ensure the 12th Street reconstruction project stays on schedule.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to reconstruct 1.22 miles of the 12th Street roadway, which serves as the county line between La Salle and Livingston counties in Streator, from Bloomington Street to Smith Douglas Road. The cost of the state’s end of the project is expected to be $2.5 million.
The council Wednesday approved $14,100 in motor fuel tax funds to have an IDOT geotechnical report completed on 12th Street. As part of IDOT’s final design requirements, soil borings must be taken at 500 foot intervals along the roadway and a geotechnical report developed to finalize a pavement design for the street.
The council’s approval kept the reconstruction project on schedule to begin next year, said City Engineer Jeremy Palm.
