Livingston County will help businesses distribute flu shot

Health department says vaccine can reduce losses to productivity, revenue for businesses

Livingston County Public Health Department

Flu season is just around the corner and the Livingston County Health Department is helping local businesses prepare.

Employers can play an important role in preventing seasonal flu, helping to protect employees’ health and reducing losses in productivity and revenue, the health department said. Annually, flu-related illness costs an estimated $10.4 billion in direct medical expenses and an additional $16.3 billion in lost earnings, the health department said.

The agency will accommodate Livingston County businesses and reduce any barriers to their workers to receiving the flu vaccine. This service is at no cost to the employer and all vaccinations are administered by a well-trained health department nurse.

Insurance card and ID are required as Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance will be billed. Accommodations will be made for those without insurance. For more information about business-based flu shot clinics, call 815-844-7174.
