Work began this week on projects that include five La Salle County highways.
As part of La Salle County’s pavement maintenance program, contractors will be working on these highways for about five weeks.
The work will take place on County Highway 1 (Harding Blacktop) from U.S. 52 north to Harding; County Highway 3 (Sheridan Blacktop) from the Sheridan quarry north to the county line (North 48th Road); County Highway 12 (Earlville West) from Route 251 east to County Highway 10 (East Seventh Road); and County Highway 22 (Shabbona Park Road) from Route 23 east to County Highway 2 (East 2351st Road).
The work will involve a two-step “cape seal.” The first application to the pavement will be a chip seal that addresses the pavement distress. Motorists may encounter loose rocks after the chip seal is applied. A few days later, a micro-surface will be applied to provide a smooth, durable surface.
Additionally, County Highway 10 (Meriden Road) from U.S. 34 north to the county line at North 48th Road will be closed 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Thursday, July 22, for seal coat work. Motorists should use an alternative route, the La Salle County Highway Department advises.
Motorists should be aware of the work and expect traffic delays along these routes.
