There will be fireworks in Ottawa: Group asking for donations

Organization will forego a raffle fundraiser again because of the pandemic

Ottawa residents can count on Fourth of July fireworks.

But Ottawa First, the nonprofit organization that raises money for the popular display, is asking for donations so the group can host Ottawa’s Fourth of July fireworks this year.

The fireworks will focus on a high-flying display that shoots up to 600 feet in the air so residents can watch the show from their own yard.

Those who are vaccinated can gather downtown for the event in accordance with COVID-19 safety precautions.

Traditionally, most of the fireworks costs are covered by an annual raffle with cash prizes conducted by Ottawa First. Last year, however, because of the pandemic the raffle was not conducted. Instead, Ottawa First dug into its reserve fund, which has been built up over the years. Plus, there were many unsolicited donations received.

This year, Ottawa First members decided pandemic precautions again called for the raffle to be suspended.

Donations can be mailed to Ottawa First, P.O. Box 453, Ottawa, IL 61350.
