Seneca High School’s Miranda Araujo wins state FFA proficiency award

Seneca High School FFA member Miranda Araujo was selected as the state FFA proficiency winner in environmental science.

Illinois FFA honors students in 50 areas related to their work-based learning, also known as supervised agricultural experiences. FFA members who demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies through recordkeeping, leadership and scholastic achievement can be considered for this award.

SAEs allow students to “learn by doing,” according to an FFA news release, either by owning and operating an agricultural business, working or doing an internship at an agriculture-based business, or conducting an agriculture-based scientific experiment and reporting results.

A committee of agriculture teachers knowledgeable in environmental science selected Araujo for the award. The committee reviewed online records and then conducted virtual interviews with FFA members who qualified for the award. Araujo is now eligible to compete in the National FFA Awards Selection process in July. She previously was chosen as the chapter, section and district awardee is this area.

Araujo has been involved in the other agricultural education and FFA activities, including prepared public speaking and parliamentary procedure. She will receive plaques for her accomplishments.

Araujo is the daughter of Miriam Garibay and Martin Garcia.
