A Channahon man imprisoned recently for aggravated battery now must stand trial in La Salle County for allegedly disseminating a nude photo of a Peru woman.
Shaun A. Cailey, 32, appeared Thursday in La Salle County Circuit Court and entered a not-guilty plea to one count of nonconsensual dissemination of a sexual image, a Class 4 felony carrying 1-3 years in prison. He will stand trial Oct. 18.
Cailey’s appearance comes a full year after he was charged. Court records said he leaked the lewd image on Aug. 4, 2020, and then a grand jury indicted him two months later.
Why such a long delay between his indictment and arraignment? Cailey’s legal trouble in La Salle County appears to have been sidelined while authorities in Grundy County prosecuted him for aggravated battery. He has since been convicted, sentenced to 5 years and was admitted to the Department of Corrections on July 22.
La Salle County prosecutors apparently ramped up their case as the Grundy County matter drew to a close. Thursday, prison guards brought him before Judge Cynthia M. Raccuglia, who ordered him returned for an Oct. 7 motions hearing with the Public Defender’s Office.
The victim disclosed in a related case she had been in a dating relationship with Cailey. After the relationship soured, she disclosed, Cailey allegedly uttered threats and divulged unauthorized images.
