A Peru man granted probation after firing a shot at a moving car, hitting instead a La Salle building, admitted Friday to violating his probation. Kevin T. Jones faces four to 15 years when he stands for April 30 sentencing.

Jones, 22, admitted Friday to using a lost credit card to buy cognac, a violation of his reporting probation. Jones entered a blind admission, meaning prosecutors can and likely will recommend prison time.

Jones pleaded guilty April 24 to aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony carrying four to 15 years in prison, after he admitted firing a gun at a moving vehicle occupied by two people with whom he’d been quarreling. He missed and hit a rear door at Beck’s in La Salle. He was granted four years reporting probation.

Jones violated his probation twice. He was first held in violation following an August trial but then resentenced to probation Oct. 16.

But on Nov. 14, a woman dropped her credit card at BP Amoco at Peru, and video surveillance caught Jones using it to buy alcohol. He also was spotted at a La Salle business from which he’d been barred.
