Both the Fieldcrest boys and the Seneca girls basketball teams closed out the COVID-abbreviated 2020-21 seasons ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes in the final Associated Press Illinois Prep basketball polls released this week.
On the girls side, Seneca (11-1) finished tied at No. 8 in Class 2A. Fieldcrest (11-2) was the de facto No. 13 with two voting points. In Class 1A, the Serena Lady Huskers (12-2) finished tied for the de facto No. 12 spot with four points.
The No. 1 teams by class were Hersey (16-0) in 4A, Kenwood (13-0) in 3A, Riverdale (8-0) in 2A and Amboy (14-1) in Class 1A.
On the boys side, Fieldcrest (12-1) finished as the No. 8 team in Class 2A. The Ottawa Pirates (14-1) landed in the de facto No. 11 spot in Class 3A, earning nine voting points. Indian Creek (17-4) was fifth in 1A, with Roanoke-Benson (13-3) coming in 10th.
The No. 1 teams by class were Whitney Young (15-1) in 4A, DePaul College Prep (14-2) in 3A, Rockford Lutheran (16-0) in 2A and Cobden (19-0) in Class 1A.
Streator quartet lands on All-IC8 Teams
Four Streator High cagers earned their way onto the Illinois Central Eight Conference’s all-league teams, officially announced this week.
For the Lady Bulldogs, point guard Dez Jordan and school all-time leading scorer Natali Haynes – both seniors – were voted to the All-IC8 Team.
For the Bulldogs, senior A.J. Benning and junior Jack Haynes both received Illinois Central Eight All-Conference honors.
