St. Bede, Marquette girls basketball seasons halted by COVID-19

Both Marquette Academy in Ottawa and St. Bede Academy in Peru have suspended their girls basketball seasons for the time being due to a potential novel coronavirus exposure. The rivals played each other Wednesday at St. Bede.

A statement released by Marquette on Friday afternoon read:

“Due to a positive COVID test from an opponent, the Marquette Girls Basketball season has been suspended.”

St. Bede confirmed its scheduled contests Saturday against Newman and Monday at Hall are off for the time being.

Marquette was scheduled to host Midland on Saturday, visit Henry-Senachwine on Monday and host Putnam County on Wednesday. Putnam County announced via Twitter its game with Marquette has been cancelled and the Lady Panthers instead will be playing Hall.

The COVID-shortened 2021 IHSA girls and boys basketball seasons are scheduled to end March 13.
