The Seneca softball team defeated Newark, 10-1. Fighting Irish’s Nicole Pihl recorded her 17th home run of the season to go along with a single, double and four RBIs, Sarah Radtke also homered, Madi Shanks had three hits and Melissa Jebens doubled and earned the win in the circle. The Norsemen were led by two hits each from Melissa Schmidt and Taylor Rehberg.

The Somonauk softball team edged Aurora Central Catholic, 12-11. The Bobcats were led by Kayle Brue (two doubles, triple, four RBIs), Kayla Jackson (triple, four RBIs), Jordan Smith (three RBIs) and Rachel Hendron (winning pitcher after three innings of relief).

The Streator softball team topped Hall 8-0 to finish the North Central Illinois Conference season a perfect 11-0, the first title since 2001. The Bulldogs were led by Katie McClellan (two doubles, two RBIs), Alison Yuhas (two RBIs) and Lyndi Araujo (two hits, winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts).

The Streator boys tennis squad defeated Kankakee Eastridge, 4-1. Bob Stortz and Chris Durham captured singles matches while doubles win came from Don Gura/Sam Erkonen and Todd Hart/Kurt Schmitz.

At the Ottawa District Track and Field Championship, Streator’s Joe Lamagno (100-yard dash) and Wayne Chamberlain (pole vault) along with Ottawa’s Ken Severson (broad jump) advanced to the state meet.
