The Streator Bulldogs hit the road for an Illinois Central Eight Conference game Wednesday for the first time this season, but suffered their initial loss of the season, falling to host Herscher, 62-57.
Streator [3-1, 2-1 ICE] – which trailed 17-10 after the opening quarter, 28-24 at halftime, and 49-44 after three quarters – was led by 23 points from Jack Haynes, with A.J. Benning adding 14 points, and Amarion Ford chipping in eight points.
Hall 55, Flanagan-Cornell 54: At Flanagan, the Falcons led 18-14 after one and 29-28 at the half, but the visiting Red Devils grabbed a 42-41 lead heading to the forth and survived a potential game-winning shot by the hosts at the final buzzer.
Flanagan-Cornell [4-2] was led by a game-high 27 points, including eight 3-pointers, from Tyler Pfaff, with J.D. Ruddy adding seven points, and Dallas Hamilton and William Weber posting six points each.
Serena 46, LaMoille 38: At LaMoille, the Huskers used a 23-4 third-quarter burst in earning the LTC win over the host Lions.
Hunter Muffler paced Serena with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Camden Figgins had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. Ben Shugrue posted seven points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and a pair of blocks.
Rochelle 65, Sandwich 61: At Rochelle, the Indians dropped a tight I-8 contest to the host Hubs.
Hinckley-Big Rock 67, Leland 16: At Hinckley, the Panthers were led by 10 points from Fernando Silva in the LTC loss the Royals.
LeRoy 61, Flanagan-Cornell 52: At The Nest on Tuesday, the Falcons fell at home in HOIC play despite staying close throughout. Sam Jones scored 18 points including five 3-pointers, with Tyler Pfaff adding 16 points for FCHS.
Girls basketball
Seneca 46, Plano 31: At Plano, the Lady Irish used a 16-2 fourth-quarter advantage in defeating the Lady Reapers to stay unbeaten on the year.
Seneca [5-0] was led by Addie Eltrevoog’s 14 points, with Kennedy Hartwig and Madi Bromberek adding nine points each, and Emma Smith six points.
Boys bowling
Rochelle 3,113, Ottawa 3,018: At Rochelle, the Pirates fell on the road to the Hubs in the I-8 matchup. Zander Parise led Ottawa with a high game of 214 and series of 546, with Ty Trovero rolling a best-game 213.
Girls bowling
The Ottawa Lady Pirates captured all three games at Dettore’s Town Lanes in topping visiting Rochelle by 250 pins in the series for the I-8 triumph. Michaela Boaz led the way for the hosts with a 545 series, including a 210 high game, with McKenzie Lewis rolling a 481 series with a 178 best-game.
JV/sophomore boys basketball
La Salle-Peru 50, Ottawa 38: At La Salle, the Corsairs held a 13-6 lead after one, but were outscored 44-25 in the final three quarters in falling to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in I-8 play with the loss to the Incas. Connor Price and Levi Sheehan led Ottawa with eight points each, while Aiden Mucci and Trace Roether had six points apiece.
Streator 50, Herscher 20: At Herscher, the Bullpups allowed just three points in the second half in earning the ICE victory. Christian Benning paced Streator with 14 points, with Jake Luckey adding eight points.
Marquette 52, Woodland 20: At Bader Gym on Tuesday, Tom Durdan scored 18 of his game-best 22 points in the first half, which went to the break with the Crusaders up 35-10. Gavin Nusbaumer and Griffen Walker added eight points each to the win. Tucker Hill paced the Warriors with eight points.
