The third-seeded Woodland boys basketball team used a 5-0 run in the final minute to top No. 6-seeded Roanoke-Benson 38-36 at the Tri-County Conference Tournament in Granville. The Warriors’ Matt Hays posted 15 points, eight rebounds, and three steals with Nate Roemer adding seven points.

The Ottawa girls hoops club ran its winning streak to nine straight games with a 46-44, overtime victory over Rochelle in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference crossover contest. The Lady Pirates were led by Kelcie Rombach’s 11 points and six rebounds. Rachel Kindred had 10 points, Allie Miceli nine points — including the game-winning layup with three seconds left — and Alex Ortiz posted eight points and six steals.

The Flanagan girls hoops squad ran to a 20-2 first-quarter advantage in defeating Midstate Conference host Dee-Mack, 62-51 in Mackinaw. Julie Erschen led the Lady Falcons with 12 points, followed by 10 points from Annie Elzey and seven points each from Jamie Jones and Molly Rapp.

The Fieldcrest boys basketball club used a 31-17 scoring advantage in the first and third quarters and made 14 of 15 free throws in a 62-51 Midstate Conference triumph over Dee-Mack. The Knights were paced by Michael Hall [18 points, nine rebounds], David Miller [14 points], Dan Reichman [13 points, nine rebounds], and Neil Ropp [11 points].

The Streator boys basketball team rolled to a 23-8, opening-quarter lead and hit 50% from the field overall in a 79-61 home triumph over Sterling in a North Central Illinois Conference game. Rodney Pence poured in 34 points, including six 3-pointers, for the Bulldogs, while Sean Reed swished four 3s in registering 16 points.

The Seneca boys hoops club ran to a 20-8 lead after the opening eight minutes in a 76-55 “W” over visiting Coal City for its 14th straight win. Mark Aubry led the Fighting Irish with 34 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and four assists, while teammate Jason Vertin added 12 points.
