The Marquette boys basketball team defeated Midland, 76-62, in the opening round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament in Granville. Dustin Gama led the Crusaders with 22 points, with Andrew Swords posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, Drew Worsley 14 points, four assists, and three steals, John Kuhn 11 points, and J.C. Thumm eight points and three assists.

The Sandwich hoops club topped visiting Interstate Eight Conference opponent Wilmington, 57-54. The Indians were paced by Keith Roach [17 points, four rebounds] and Dennis Lueken [16 points, 14 rebounds}.

The Marquette boys basketball squad used a 21-9 third-quarter advantage in a 71-56 triumph over host Putnam County in the opening round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament. The Crusaders were led by 31 points [including five 3-pointers] and 10 rebounds from John Calkins, with Mike Hall adding 10 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, Matt Feller had nine points and eight rebounds, and Scott Brown four points and seven assists.

The Sandwich wrestling team wrapped up an undefeated [24-0] regular season with victories over Stillman Valley [70-4] and Amboy [66-10]. Double winners for the Indians were: Brent Skorup [103], Mike Olson [119], Matt Christensen [125], Brandon Dobnick [140], Sergio Reyes [145], Dan Carty [171], Scott Byram [189], Josh Chrestman [215], and Chris Quinn [275].

The Streator girls basketball team trailed visiting rival Ottawa by 13 points with just over seven minutes to play but used a 22-8 run to close out a 51-50 victory. Colleen Anderson had 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs, while Angelica Magana had 15 points — including a pair of 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds, the last right before the buzzer — Stephanie Nangle posted 11 points and six rebounds, and Tonya Thorp eight rebounds. The Lady Pirates were paced by a game-high 21 points from Tracy Farrell and 11 points from Tara Darif.

The Fieldcrest boys hoops club earned a 70-54 Midstate Conference triumph over Gridley. Josh Halley led the way for the Knights with 24 points, followed by 18 points from Eric Seifert and 11 points from Joe Conroy.
