The Ottawa boys basketball team pushed to a 24-9 first-quarter lead and eventually a 72-51 North Central Illinois Conference win over Mendota at Kingman Gymnasium. The Pirates were led by Mike Lamb [10 points], Andy Carretto [nine points], Ryan Gunderson [eight points], Pat Sanchez [seven points, six rebounds, four blocked shots], and Alex McGrath [six points, four blocked shots].

The Streator hoops team shot 62% from the floor and were a perfect 22-of-22 from the free-throw line in a 88-73 NCIC triumph over Kewanee at Pops Dale Gymnasium. Brandon VanDuzer led the Bulldogs with 31 points and 14 rebounds, with Brooks Martin and Brady Bedecker adding 13 points each.

The Serena boys basketball squad used a 23-14 third-quarter margin in a 67-54 Little Ten Conference win over host Indian Creek in Shabbona. The Huskers were paced by Kyle Mason’s 20 points and eight rebounds, with Cooper Westvig adding 14 points and four assists, and Connor Finley 13 points and four helpers. The Timberwolves received 20 points from Nathan Yaggie, while teammate Chris Tidwell posted 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

The Marquette boys hoops team earned an 80-68 Tri-County Conference win over Henry-Senachwine at Bader Gymnasium. The Crusaders were led by J.C. Thumm [20 points, 12 assists], Andrew Swords [19 points, six rebounds], Dustin Gama [14 points, eight boards], Drew Worsley [12 points, seven rebounds, three steals], and Tanner Bland [10 points, six assists].

The Woodland boys basketball team — behind a game-winning jump shot from the left baseline with two seconds left by Randy Higbie — topped visiting Minonk-Dana-Rutland, 55-53. The Warriors were led by 14 points from Randy Delheimer, 13 from Higbie, and 10 points from Mel McMeen, MDR was paced by 20 points from Dave Cornell and 10 points from Randy Butera.

The Streator boys basketball team trailed Urbana by six points at halftime but regrouped to outscore the hosts 37-12 — including holding the Tigers to just a pair of field goals — in the second half to earn a 61-42 Big 12 Conference victory. The Bulldogs were led by Dan Kerestes’ 19 points, while Gene Christman added 12 points, and Stan O’Kraski and Ron Goerne chipped in 10 points apiece.
