3 La Salle County men die from COVID-19 complications

Three La Salle County men — one in his 60s, one in his 70s and one in his 80s — died from complications related to COVID-19.

Their deaths are the fourth, fifth and sixth this month. Last month, there were 10 COVID-19 related deaths in La Salle County and there were 61 COVID-19 related deaths in November 2020. There have been 357 deaths countywide since the beginning of the pandemic.

Additionally, there were 167 new COVID-19 cases confirmed from Nov. 19 to Nov. 24. There have been 98 residents removed from isolation since Nov. 19.

Making up the new cases are 16 boys younger than 13, 11 girls younger than 13, eight teenage boys, 12 teenage girls, 10 men in their 20s, 14 women in their 20s, 12 men in their 30s, 17 women in their 30s, eight men in their 40s, eight women in their 40s, 11 men in their 50s, 11 women in their 50s, 11 women in their 60s, seven women in their 60s, three men in their 70s, two women in their 70s, four men in their 80s, a woman in her 80s and a man in his 90s.

La Salle County has a new case rate of higher than 50 per 100,000 (223.61 per 100,000), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Data Tracker.

There are 56,690 residents fully-vaccinated for COVID-19 in La Salle County, which is 52.05% of the county’s population, and 61,873 residents who have received at least dose, which is 56.54% of the county’s population. There have been 13,371 doses of COVID-19 booster distributed to county residents.

The La Salle County Health Department has COVID -19 vaccine available at the health department on Etna Road in Ottawa by appointment only, Monday through Friday. The health department has Johnson and Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer available. Residents who still need to be vaccinated should call the health department at 815-433-3366 to make an appointment.

The health department also offers booster doses on a weekly basis, by appointment only. Additionally, the La Salle County Health Department offers the Pfizer vaccine for children on a weekly basis, by appointment only. Hospitalization totals

OSF HealthCare did not release information this week on the number of hospitalizations within its chain.

Morris Hospital reported nine patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday. Seven of those patients are unvaccinated. There is one patient in ICU and none on a ventilator. The patient in ICU is not vaccinated.
