Wednesday sets new high mark for vaccines administered in La Salle County

1,603 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered to La Salle County residents

Despite the Johnson and Johnson vaccine being suspended earlier this week, La Salle County set a new high mark for COVID-19 vaccine doses administered Wednesday.

There were 1,603 doses administered Wednesday to La Salle County residents, besting the previous high of 1,440 doses administered on April 8.

The La Salle County Health Department initially had a Johnson and Johnson vaccine clinic scheduled Wednesday at Illinois Valley Community College for up to 900 residents. When the vaccine was suspended, the health department kept its appointments and offered the Moderna vaccine as an alternative for those who still wanted to get a vaccine. Those individuals will need to get a second shot in the next two weeks to be considered fully-vaccinated.

With Wednesday’s doses, La Salle County residents have received a total of 56,499 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

There are 21,661 residents fully-vaccinated, which is 19.79% of the county’s population.
