La Salle County coronavirus update: Streator sees single-day increase of 35 cases

Fully vaccinated residents countywide pass 1K mark

A La Salle County man in his 70s died from complications related to COVID-19.

He is the 255th COVID-19-related death in the county since the beginning of the pandemic.

There were 71 new confirmed and probable cases of the virus in the county and 53 people removed from isolation. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 9,975 COVID-19 cases, and of those, 6,925 individuals have been removed from isolation.

In La Salle County, 8,405 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, an increase of 850 from the previous day’s report, with 1,063 residents (0.97% of the population) fully vaccinated against the disease (up 111 from the previous day). Vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time while vaccine administration figures are reported with up to a 72-hour lag.

Of 438 La Salle County residents tested Sunday, the latest data available from the Illinois Department of Public Health, 4.3% were returned positive with the virus. From Jan. 18 to 24, the seven-day positivity rate was 5%.

The IDPH’s ZIP code data (which sometimes lags behind county numbers) of total cases since the start of the pandemic, with increases since Tuesday’s report, shows:

  • Streator, which also is in Livingston County, is up 35 to 1,709.
  • Ottawa is up 13 to 1,941.
  • Sandwich, which also is in DeKalb County, is up four to 1,094.
  • Peru is up four to 1,079.
  • Mendota is up three to 1,069.
  • Sheridan is up three to 592. (37 active cases in Sheridan Correctional Center; 366 total).
  • Oglesby is up three to 412.
  • La Salle is up two to 949.
  • Seneca is up two to 262.
  • Wenona, which also is in Marshall County, is up two to 95.
  • Ranson is up two to 36.
  • Marseilles is up one to 652.
  • Somonauk is up one to 327.
  • Earlville is up one to 205.
  • Grand Ridge is up one to 82.
  • Tonica is up one to 80.
  • Lostant is up one to 57.
  • Utica remains at 163.
  • Leland remains at 149.
  • Serena remains at 51.
  • Millington, which also is in Kendall County, remains at 45.
  • Rutland remains at 23.
  • Cedar Point remains at 22.
  • Dana remains at 21.
  • Troy Grove remains at 13.

A man in his 80s, four men in their 70s, a woman in her 70s, two men in their 60s, two women in their 60s, five men in their 50s, a woman in her 50s, six men in their 40s, three women in their 40s, 10 men in their 30s, five women in their 30s, six men in their 20s, eight women in their 20s, four teenage boys, three teenage girls, a boy younger than 13 and nine girls younger than 13 made up the new cases Wednesday.
