La Salle County coronavirus update: 64 additional cases, 47 new recoveries, 1 COVID-related death reported Thursday

For the second consecutive day, La Salle County saw one additional COVID-related death, bringing the county’s total since the start of the pandemic to 251, the La Salle County Health Department [LCHD] reported Thursday.

Thursday’s death was a man in his 80s.

The LCHD also reported 64 new confirmed and probable cases — two boys and two girls under the age of 13, four boys and six girls in their teens, five men and six women in their 20s, six men and four women in their 30s, six men and one woman in their 40s, five men and four women in their 50s, one man and five women in their 60s, one man and three women in their 70s, and one man and two men in their 80s — to bring the running total since mid-March to 9,723 with three cases re-assigned to other counties.

Forty-seven individuals previously reported to have cases released from isolation bring that total to 6,675. The number of known, active cases in La Salle County is 2,797.

Of the 617 La Salle County residents tested Monday, the latest data available from the Illinois Department of Public Health, 7.8% were positive, a 4.6% increase from the day before. From Jan. 12 to 18, the positivity rate was 6.9%.

In La Salle County, 5,753 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, an increase of 216 from the previous day, with 813 residents (0.74% of the population) fully vaccinated against the disease. Vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time while vaccine administration figures are reported with up to a 72-hour lag.

The IDPH’s ZIP code data (which sometimes lag behind county numbers) of total cases since the start of the pandemic, with increases since Wednesday’s report, show:

  • Streator, which also is in Livingston County, up 27 to 1,621
  • Mendota up seven to 1,043
  • Sheridan up seven to 579 (354 of those inmates at Sheridan Correctional Center, per the Illinois Department of Corrections’ Wednesday report)
  • Ottawa up six to 1,861
  • Sandwich, which also is in DeKalb County, up six to 1,048
  • Somonauk, which also is in DeKalb County, up three to 315
  • Seneca up three to 257
  • Peru up one to 1,052
  • La Salle up one to 934
  • Marseilles up one to 646
  • Oglesby up one to 405
  • Utica up one to 158
  • Grand Ridge up one to 81
