La Salle County coronavirus update: Streator county’s only ZIP with double-digit case increase Tuesday

No deaths reported Tuesday to LCHD

The La Salle County Health Department on Tuesday reported 57 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases, 46 individuals previously reported to have cases released from isolation and no additional COVID-19-related deaths.

The 57 new cases elevate that running total since the beginning of the pandemic to 9,602. The 46 additional recoveries bring that running total to 6,611. The number of deaths remains at 249.

The number of known, active cases in La Salle County as of Tuesday’s report stood at 2,742.

Of the 500 La Salle County residents tested Saturday, the latest data available from the Illinois Department of Public Health, 13.6% were positive, the first time in eight days the daily positivity has been in double digits. From Jan. 10 to 16, the positivity rate was 7.2%.

In La Salle County, 4,713 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, with 798 residents (0.73% of the population) fully vaccinated against the disease. Vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time while vaccine administration figures are reported with up to a 72-hour lag.

The IDPH’s ZIP code data (which sometimes lag behind county numbers) of total cases since the start of the pandemic, with increases since Monday’s report, show:

  • Streator, which also is in Livingston County, up 16 to 1,580
  • Ottawa up seven to 1,844
  • Sandwich, which also is in DeKalb County, up seven to 1,037
  • Peru up six to 1,045
  • Mendota up four to 1,027
  • Somonauk, which also is in DeKalb County, up four to 310
  • Sheridan up three to 571 (341 of those inmates at Sheridan Correctional Center)
  • Seneca up three to 253
  • Marseilles up two to 643
  • Oglesby up one to 401
  • Earlville up one to 201
  • Utica up one to 156
  • Leland up one to 146
  • Wenona, which mostly is in Marshall County, up one to 86
  • Serena up one to 51
  • Rutland up one to 21

One boy and four girls under the age of 13, two boys and a girl in their teens, five men and four women in their 20s, four men and two women in their 30s, six men and seven women in their 40s, two men and six women in their 50s, two women in their 60s, two men and five women in their 70s and two men and two women in their 80s made up Tuesday’s 57 new cases.
