At the Class 2A La Salle-Peru Regional semifinal, top-seeded Sterling boys soccer beat La Salle-Peru, 4-0, to advance to championship match against Streator at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Sterling pulled away in a tight match with two goals in the final 11:18. Fabricio Pena scored twice for the Golden Warriors (10-8-4). Nathan Sanchez and Luis Ibarra Rodriguez added Sterling’s other goals, with goalkeeper Sergio Garcia keeping the clean sheet.
La Salle-Peru finishes the season 10-13-2.
Streator def. Reed-Custer, 25-22, 25-23: At Braidwood, the Bulldogs picked up the Illinois Central Eight Conference win over the Comets on Tuesday in straight sets. Streator was paced by Mallory Goerne (seven kills, two digs, an ace), Devin Elias (three kills, a block), Alexa Jacobs (two kills, three blocks), Ellie Isermann (11 assists) and Emma Graves (nine digs).
Reed-Custer def. Streator, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21: At Braidwood on Tuesday, the Bulldogs won the opening set, but the hosts rebounded to take the final two in the ICE match. Streator was led by six kills each from Zuzu Gonzalez (six assists, two aces) and Sophia Pence (two aces), with Sonia Proksa posting three kills and 10 digs. Kora Lane had nine digs and a pair of aces.
Reed-Custer def. Streator, 25-19, 26-28, 25-15: At Braidwood on Tuesday, the Bulldogs fell in three sets to the Comets.
