At Minonk on Saturday, Fieldcrest captured the championship of their own eight-team Fieldcrest Knight Invitational, defeating Princeton, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, in the championship match after besting Illini Bluffs in straight sets in the semifinals.
In pool play, the Knights (14-2) defeated St. Bede, Cissna Park and Clinton.
Fieldcrest’s leaders on the day included Kaya Buchanan (five stuff blocks), Bella Fortner (58 assists), Kristyn Swartz (56 assists), Allie Wiesenhofer (32 kills, 27 digs), Carolyn Megow (22 digs) and Ashlyn May (27 kills).
Norsemen go 3-2 in Mt. Pulaski: At the Mt. Pulaski Tournament, Newark posted a 3-2 mark with wins over Williamsville, Macomb and Decatur Lutheran, while falling to Eastland and Lena-Winslow. All matches were two sets other than the Macomb win in three and the Lena-Winslow defeat that went three games.
Streator 157, Coal City 154, Morris 131, Lisle 86: At the unofficial Illinois Central Eight Conference Doubles Tournament [plus Morris] hosted by Coal City, Streator captured first place via total games won, with a pair of Bulldogs teams going undefeated.
The Streator teams of Mina James and Madelyn Wahl at No. 3 doubles and Marissa Vickers and Franchesca Rodriguez at No. 5 doubles enjoyed 3-0 performances on the day. Going 2-1 were the No. 2 team of Claire Vogel and Lucy Zavada, No. 4 Ebony Pickens and Brianna Janke, and the No. 6 team of Hope Porter and Danielle Sterner. The No. 1 team of Syria Zuniga and Charlee Bourell added a 1-2 mark to Streator’s victorious team total.
Sandwich 8th at Fran Noyes Invite: At Swan Hills, Sandwich placed eighth at Genoa-Kingston’s Fran Noyes Invitational led by Noah Campbell (22 Stableford scoring points) and Michael Barbey (21). Sam Dawson (15), Jacob Kuntz (15) and Nick Sullivan (13) rounded out the team score.
Pirates compete at Lady Cavs Scramble: At Senica’s Oak Ridge, Ottawa scored a third-place finish at the L-P Lady Cav Scramble.
Ottawa junior girls win at Geneseo: In the Geneseo Invitational, Ottawa’s junior girls claimed first place in the event scored by class led by Grace Carroll (1st, 21:14), Kendra Martin (4th, 21:54), Eva Heimsoth (7th, 22:31), Megan Smelko (8th, 23:45), Michaela Froisland (18th, 28:10) and Emma Heiser (19th, 28:50).
Other top-20 finishes for the Pirates included: junior boys – Liam Tipple (9th, 22:32) and Cole Smelko (12th, 20:38); senior girls – Lainey Billings (5th, 22:32), Giannan Corsolini (8th, 23:05) and Paris Duffy (19th, 27:43); senior boys – Aaron Nobel (15th, 20:37), Deklan Ragan (17th, 21:00) and Duncan Perry (18th, 21:22); and freshman girls – Addy Miller (7th, 23:53), Hailey Larsen (11th, 24:41) and Rachael Stewart (19th, 41:36).
Sandwich, Stoeger, O’Connor take titles at Donner: At Bureau Valley’s Dale Donner Invitational, Sandwich’s boys took first place. Max Cryer was 12th in 17:28, Wyatt Miller 20th in 17:45, Dayton Beatty 26th in 18:05, Josefh Hernandez 32nd in 18:13 and Hudson Wills 38th in 18:24.
Fieldcrest ace Mason Stoeger was the individual boys winner with a run of 15:39.8. Other top-50 area finishers included Seneca’s Austin Aldridge (5th, 18:53.6), Brady Danek (23rd, 17:54.8) and Calvin Maierhofer (49th, 18:54.9).
In the girls event, Seneca’s Evelyn O’Connor was the individual champion, running a 19:22.5 for third-place Seneca. Other Times-area runners in the top 50 included Seneca’s Ashley Alsvig (4th, 19:56.9), Sandwich’s Joanna Rivera (22nd, 20:54.0), Seneca’s Gracie Steffes (34th, 22:03.1), Sandwich’s Hannah Treptow (40th, 22:10.9) and Erin Lissman (41st, 22:14.1) and Seneca’s Audrey Jenkins (43rd, 22:18.7).
