A pair of Times-area baseball players named to IHSBCA All-State teams
Marquette senior Nick Melvin and Newark senior Dalton Reibel have been named to the Illinois High School Baseball Association’s All-State teams. Melvin, who helped the Crusaders reach the Illinois Wesleyan University’s Class 2A Supersectional, is one of 21 Class 2A players honored, while Reibel, who was a big key in the Norsemen reaching the Class 1A state finals, finishing third, is one of 19 Class 1A selections.

Dairy Queen 10, Danchris Nursery 1: Riley Stevens, Luke Bemont, and Cody Taylor combined to pitch a one-hitter for Dairy Queen on Tuesday night at Southside Park. The trio struck out eight and walked four in the win. Chase Lane went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove home two runs for DQ. Bemont also had two hits and two RBIs. Danchris Nursery’s Tyler Barbee broke up the no-hit bid with a single in the fifth inning.
The two teams will meet again in the Junior League championship game Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
Danchris Nursery 13, Dairy Queen 13: The two teams battled to the tie before the time limit kicked in. With such a high-scoring game, there were plenty of offensive highlights. For Dairy Queen, Isaiah Missel went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI, Riley Stevens went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI, and Jon Davis singled and drove in three runs. Cody Taylor also went 2-for-2 with an RBI. For Danchris Nursery, Jordan Lukes went 3-for-3 with two triples, a single, and four RBI. Aiden Ferris, Noah Lopez, and Alex Harcar each went 2-for-3 and drove in runs.

Monday Night Women
Pineapple Escape 12 Deer Park 4: Kayla Kimeshad a double and a single, Lindsey Gaworski and Malachi Staton each contributed two singles each and Rachel Patrick was the winning pitcher for Escape (1-1). Shaia Bishop led the way with two singles and a double, Harmony Byrne, Riley Bongartz and Sarah Haines each had two hits, Alex Mucci took the loss on the mound for Deer Park (0-2).
Danchris Nursery 5, Silver Slipper 4: Madison Vanness led the way with two singles and a double, Alyssa Mussatto, Morgan Brandner, Brook Templeton, and Lily Nanouski each had two hits and Rachel DiRosa was the winning pitcher for Danchris (2-0). Stephanie Norris led the way with a pair of hits, while Mindi Taliani, Leslie Ahrens, Lacey Hansen, Sarah Kahon, Kristen School, and Breck Craig all added singles for Silver Slipper (1-1).
Tuesday Night Men
The Outage 24, LHL Angels 2: Karter Lowery, Caleb Gould, and Mickey Armstrong each smacked a pair of home runs, while Tyler Lewis earned the win on the mound to keep The Outage (3-0) unbeaten on the season. Ryan Thompson, Jeremy Siebert, and Kyle Kokrda each had two hits for LHL Angles (0-3).
Manley/Dan Le Music Services 13, Berta’s 7: Andrew Mathis (double) led the way with four hits, Fielding Lockas and John Vandervort each had three hits, and Nick Harsted and Zach Miller each homered to back winning pitcher Hunter Sutton for Manley/Dan Le Music Services (2-1). Dalton Gunier and Brandon Moore each homered, while Jeremy Foreman and J.J. Less doubled for Berta’s (2-1).
Pet Smart 9, Tony’s Butt Shack 2: Tanner Bland went 3-for-3, while Matt Leal, Kyle Sibert, and James Burden each had a pair of hits to help Pet Smart (1-2) pick up their first win of the season. Hayden Suett recorded two hits, while John Bright and Tony Viccario each singled and scored a run for Tony’s Butt Shack (0-3).
Hometown National Bank 9, Illinois Office Supply 3: Anthony Valvo, Alex Koziel, Adam Koziel, Troy Yeager, Matt Polega, and Mason Erschen each had a pair of hits, with one of Erschen’s hit being a home run for Hometown National Bank (2-1). Michael Killelea had two hits with Evan Green, Mike Hall, Shane Reynolds, and Correy Tedford all contributing singles for Illinois Office Supply (2-1).

Four Times-area hoops seniors have been selected to play in the IBCA All-Star games on June 26
Ottawa’s Anthony Cooper, La Salle-Peru’s Drake Weber, Fieldcrest’s Jaxon Cusac-McKay, and Seneca’s Brooklyn Giertz have all been selected to play in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Star games on Saturday, June 26 at Pontiac Community High School.
Cooper and Weber will play for the Class 3A-4A South squad, Cusac-McKay will be on the Class 1A-2A North team, and Giertz will be a member of the Class 1A-2A North club. Other names local fans will recognize that are scheduled to play are Drew Gaston (Indian Creek), Brandon Ceylor (Dwight), Luke Braman (Roanoke-Benson), Daniel Duncan (Peoria Christian), Brooke Heiman (Indian Creek), Kayla Kodat (Dwight), Mallory Powers (Amboy), Abi Payne (Amboy), and Tessa Prellberg (Hinckley-Big Rock).
The 1A-2A girls will start the day tipping off at 11 a.m., followed by the 1A-2A boys at 1 p.m., 3A-4A girls at 4 p.m., and 3A-4A boys at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is $5.
