Sign-ups open for Ottawa City Rec Softball
Ottawa City Recreation is accepting rosters for the summer seasons of men’s and women’s softball.
Leagues include men’s 14-inch slow pitch, women’s 12-inch slow pitch and women’s 12-inch fast pitch. Rosters must be submitted by May 26.
Forms are available at Ottawa City Hall, the Ottawa YMCA, Sam’s Pizza and online through the Ottawa City Recreation website ottawarecreation.org.
Marquette cagers go 5-1
The Marquette Academy seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams split with Pontiac St. Mary’s and swept Oglesby Washington and Putnam County in recent action.
The 7s defeated St. Mary’s, 29-11, (Anna Hjerpe 11 points, Hunter Hopkins 10); Washington, 41-16, (Hjerpe 12, Hopkins and Kinley Rick eight apiece); and Putnam County, 24-4, (Hjerpe 10 points, Hopkins eight).
The eighth grade Knights fell to St. Mary’s, 25-22, (Keely Nelson and Alyssa Zellers six points each) but defeated Washington, 41-7, (Avery Durdan 15 points, Kealey Rick and Maura Condon six points apiece) and Putnam County, 28-11, (Durdan 11, Makayla Backos six).

Luckey Trucking 3, Feken 1: Urijah Zavada hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run to drive in himself, Patrick Luckey and Liam Doty for the winners’ runs, with Isaac Brockman and Connor Koetz striking out six apiece.
Hatzer & Son 2, CMJ 1: Kane McCloskey (6 Ks), Drake Sterling (5 Ks) and Noah Graff (3 Ks) pitched the win, backed by Sterling tagging two doubles and McCloskey an RBI double. For CMJ, Antonio McStoots tripled and Silas Angelico provided an RBI single.
