The Ottawa High boys tennis team scored a home sweep of Rochelle on Thursday at the King Field courts.
A 6-1, 6-3 victory was recorded at No. 1 doubles by the OHS team of Sam Walker and Regan Linde; a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles by Will Goetz and Tanner Ditchfield; and a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles courtesy of Logan Goetsch and Daniel Reinhardt.
In singles play, it was Ethan Krafft notching a 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 win at No. 1; while at No. 2 Adam Gross was a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victor.
Boys track and field
Marquette first in Granville: In a Tuesday triangular at Putnam County, Lucas Hoffman led the way to the overall team victory, winning the 1600 (4:58.29) and also running the opening leg of the winning 1600 relay team also featuring Nate Nelson, Peter McGrath and Easton Kent (3:55.04).
Donnie Zitt (:26.02 in the 200), Kent (:57.75 in the 400), and the squad of Zitt, Maclane Rinearson, Casey McGrath and Peter McGrath in both the 400 and the 800 relays also scored Cru victories.
Streator 100, Peotone 6: At Streator, the host Bulldogs dominated an IC8 meet.
James McDonald (triple jump, 7.67 meters), Cade Stevens (5.01 long jump, 1.62 high jump, 24.8 seconds 200), Dustin Vernon (23.30 discus, 9.29 shot put), Josh Wilinski (:47.1 300 hurdles, :19.1 110 hurdles), Kevin Parr (15:21 3200), Trevor Mitts (7:30.1 1600), Kody Danko (2:15.8 800) and Amarion Ford (:12.1 100) scored individual wins for Streator.
Relay wins were scored in the 400 (:47.2 by Stevens, Aneefy Ford, Amarion Ford, Danko), 800 (1:42.9 by Collin Jeffries, the Fords, McDonald), 1600 (5:21.7 by Nick Adams, Mitts, Parr, Ryan Seaton) and 3200 (11:46.5 by Adams, Mitts, Parr, Seaton).
Girls track and field
Streator 115, Peotone 19: At Streator, the IC8 meet was controlled by the host Bulldogs.
Individual victories were recorded by Abby Pierce (14.4 seconds 100, :30.0 200, :19.3 100 hurdles, :57.2 300 hurdles), Lily Kupec (1:10.9 400), Abby Seaton (2:51.5 800), Lana Krohe (10.80 meters shot put), Madi Mertes (25.55 discus), Marissa Vickers (1.32 high jump), Mina James (3.72 long jump) and Jeniece White (7.52 triple jump).
Streator relay teams in the 1600 (6:21.9 by Sara Reed, Claire Durdan, Kaitlyn Monaghan, Stephanie Mendoza), 800 (2:20.9 by Cassie Simons, James, Mertes, Cioni Kosur) and 400 (Simons, White, Cherish Frederick-Jordan, Rilee Talty) also scored wins.
Pair of firsts for Marquette: At Granville, Kaitlyn Magoonaugh (18.81 meters) in the discus and Lindsey Kuykendall (:31/42) in the 200 scored wins for Marquette.
Baseball
Gardner-South Wilmington 7, WFC 3: At rural Streator, the host Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell Warriors opened the season by jumping out to a 3-0 lead, but ultimately fell to 0-1.
Xander Boyles singled and doubled, Nolan Bressi singled twice, and Carl Sass notched two singles and two RBIs for WFC. Ewing (4 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 3 K) started on the hill, with Boyles (1 13 IP, 2 ER) suffering the loss in relief.
Morris 5, Sandwich 2: At Morris, the visiting Indians (0-2) were defeated, with Sam Palumbo’s single, home run and two RBIs the extent of Sandwich’s offensive output. Adam West (2 IP, 3 ER, 2 K) was dealt the pitching defeat.
Plano 9, Streator 6: At Plano, the visiting Bulldogs (4-2) lost their second straight, with a four-run third and three-run sixth for the Reapers (5-4) the difference.
Adam Williamson (4 IP, 2 ER, 6 K) took the pitching loss, while offensively Brady Grabowski (single, triple, two RBIs), Sean McGurk (two RBIs), Nolan Barr (single, triple) and Blake Ewing (two singles) led the attack.
Yorkville Christian 12, Serena 5: At Serena, the host Huskers suffered the loss despite Cole Shannon’s single, double, RBI and strong mound effort of two earned runs allowed over 3 2/3 innings in relief of starter Todd Broadus-Smith (2 IP, 7 ER, 1 K). Ivan Stafford, Cam Figgins and Hunter Staton also drove home runs for the Huskers.
Softball
WFC 12, Gardner-South Wilmington 0 (5 inn.): At rural Streator, freshman Shae Simons (5 IP, 0 R, 12 K) allowed just two hits in the shutout.
WFC (2-0) scored nine runs in the first inning for the second straight game. Audrey Jenkins provided three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs, Ella Sibert homered and had two RBIs, Cheyenne Burns and Simons each had two hits and an RBI, and Jena Easton singled, doubled and drove home two.
Streator 17, Plano 2: At Plano, the visiting Bulldogs earned the road win with an offensive attack led by multi-hit performances by Jadyn Hansen, Jaelyn Blakemore, Hannah Gotch, Maci Byers, Faith Clift, Anna Schmitz, Kadence Ondrey and Anna Hoffmeyer, with Blakemore and Clift both homering.
Blakemore (5 IP, 2 R, 4 K) earned the pitching win as well.
JV boys tennis
Ottawa 5, Rochelle 0: At Ottawa, Sebastian Cabrera (6-0, 6-0) and Karcin Hagi (8-5) scored singles wins for the Corsairs, while the teams of Ethan Hancock/Zander Houk (6-0, 6-0), Ethan Cela/Taegeon Eom (8-2) and Rylan Salas/Landon Thorsen (8-3) earned doubles triumphs.
JUCO softball
Madison 9, IVCC 0; Madison 11, IVCC 2: Ally Gullette (4 2/3 IP, 8 ER, 3 K) and Josie Woodley (5 IP, 11 ER, 0 K) took the pitching losses for the Eagles.
