Earn Your Automotive Technology Career Certificate at Morton College!

If you’re interested in learning about automotive vehicles, Morton College has a terrific Auto Tech program to help advance your education. MC’s Automotive Technology Career Certificate prepares students for employment as automotive technicians, where they learn about the design, function, diagnosis, and proper repair for all major automotive systems. The program also prepares students for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam.

“Our program began in the early 1970s, and was originally offered in the evening at dealerships along Ogden Avenue,” explained Joyce Saibic, Automotive Technical Assistant for Morton College. “We’ve been in our current location since the campus buildings opened in 1975.”

According to Saibic, students can select from a Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate (16 credits), an Automotive Service Certificate (19 credits), an Automotive Technology Career Certificate (50 credits), and an Automotive Associate in Applied Science degree (64 credits).

“The jobs available to students vary greatly,” she added. “Depending on their interests, we can usually match students to the proper position. Opportunities include working as a Lube Tech at a dealership, and entry-level jobs at independent repair shops, tire shops, and parts stores. Students can also transfer to a 4-year university to continue their education.”

MC instructors work closely with students to help them succeed. “We have potential employers come in and meet with students,” said Saibic. “Once each semester, reps from local Ford dealerships visit to discuss employment opportunities and to conduct interviews. Students are often offered entry-level positions in the field within their first semester. Class sizes are small, so students benefit from individualized attention.”

Classes are offered in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings to accommodate students’ schedules. “We partner with Ford, Subaru, and Snap-On/NC3 to provide the most updated training for our students,” said Saibic. “There is a high demand for automotive technicians, so there are countless employment opportunities for trained individuals.” For more information, please contact:
