Don’t Overlook the Elephant in the Room When Planning For Retirement

When planning for a future successful retirement, the costs and burdens associated with aging can be a big elephant in the room.

“Longevity is a big concern. As we age, the chance of needing Long-Term Care services and supports increases dramatically. Without an advance plan you will force your family to be caregivers or pay for care out of your hard-earned savings. A better more affordable solution exists, Long-Term Care Insurance,” said Matt McCann, a nationally known expert on Long-Term Care insurance and extended care planning.

McCann says there are several fallacies, and knowing the facts prior to retirement is a key to that successful future retirement. Here are some common misconceptions:

Myth #1: Long-Term Care Insurance is expensive.

“I speak with many people throughout the country and many think LTC insurance costs $300-$400 or more per month. Not even close!” McCann said. “Depending on age, health and benefit amount some people can get good coverage for under $150.00 a month, some under $100 a month. Premiums are very affordable, and you can enjoy good health discounts.”

Myth #2: Long-Term Care Insurance is only for nursing homes.

Most claims are actually for in-home care. These affordable plans provide your choice of care, at home or in a facility, including assisted living and adult daycare.

Myth #3: Long-Term Care Insurance offers limited options.

Many companies offer numerous options. These include shared spousal benefits, partnership plans in 44 states that offer additional asset protection, single premium plans with death benefits and small inexpensive ‘short-term’ plans.

“When you speak with a specialist like myself, we can find the right option for your situation,” McCann said.
