Lockdown lifted at Elmhurst University following report of gunman

Elmhurst College changes its name to Elmhurst University, effective July 1.

The lockdown at Elmhurst University was lifted at about 6 p.m. about two hours after students were were told to shelter in place when man with a gun was reported on the campus.

The gunman was reportedly seen near the the Dinkmeyer and Niebuhr residence halls, the university reported online at about 4 p.m.

Police searched all campus buildings before lifting the lockdown, the university said.

The university said it will provide additional details via email. Students may resume their normal activities, the university said.
